No Stranger to the Diocese

Story By: Karen Morris

In January, I had the privilege of taking on the role of Executive Assistant to Bishop Ken Howell, replacing Christine Hickey, who is now enjoying her well-earned retirement.

I grew up in Toowoomba, attending Holy Name and Sacred Heart Primary Schools and St Saviour’s College. Upon leaving school, I worked for Westpac Bank, where I met my lovely husband Shayne, an Allora boy. We were married in 1993 at The Shrine and have two wonderful children, now young adults, Kate and Sam of whom we are very proud.

Following my work in banking, I took on a new career in education. I worked in various administrative roles in Toowoomba schools, an area I have thoroughly enjoyed, with my first role in education at St Mary’s College and my last role at Toowoomba Catholic Schools Office, where I assisted the Director of Education Services.

Shayne and I are members of St Thomas More’s Parish, and I am currently a member of their Parish Pastoral Council.

I am settling well into my new role with Bishop Ken. I am enjoying reacquainting myself with many of the priests and parishioners in our diocese. This is a role where I can bring my administrative and organisational skills to support Bishop Ken with the various responsibilities of his office. I feel blessed to have commenced in this role. Please say hello if you see me around.
