Foundation stone was laid by Bishop Robert Dunne, Bishop of Brisbane and Fr T O’Connell, Parish Priest.
“..a thousand people attend the ceremony and it was conducted with all the solemnity as prescribed in the Roman Ritual at that time. When the large block of chiselled freestone had been blessed and marked on it’s six aides with crosses, a crystal vase containing the usual parchment record and assortment of the coins of the present day and the “Australian” newspaper of the previous Saturday with some other newspapers, was sealed by the bishop in the presence of the Committee and clergy and deposited in the cavity prepared in the massive block. It was then lowered by block and tackle and took it’s place as the foundation stone of St Patrick’s Church, Toowoomba.” from Stones that Speak, by Br Leo J Ansell CFC.
